Sideline Sanity

Michele Tafoya, a four-time Sports Emmy Award winner, retired from sportscasting on February 14, 2021 after working her final NBC Sunday Night Football game at Super Bowl LVI, her fifth Super Bowl, the day before. She was the most-honored national television sideline reporter in U.S. sports and the only finalist for the Emmy in each year of its existence. Tafoya, who began her sports media career in 1993, was widely recognized as the best sideline reporter in sports and was honored twice with a Gracie Award. Prior to her retirement, she stated that she wanted to explore other areas personally and professionally. She was praised by her colleagues, including Fred Gaudelli, SNF executive producer, and Al Michaels, SNF play-by-play, for her extraordinary contributions to Sunday Night Football. Hall of Fame Quarterbacks Brett Favre and Peyton Manning also paid tribute to her for her professionalism and unique ability to bring out joy in players during her interviews.
